Instagram has launched a new capability allowing creators to connect multiple Reels into a cohesive series – an addition designed to streamline multi-part storytelling on the platform. The feature, called “Link a Reel,” lets users tap a button while creating or editing a Reel to link it with another, triggering in-stream prompts like “Watch Part 2” that guide viewers through sequential content.
Creators can also link older Reels retroactively via the overflow menu. These “series” options make it easier to organize topic-related videos – be it tutorials, episodic narratives, or themed content – enhancing discoverability and viewer engagement.
While the concept is not novel – TikTok has long offered similar linking and “Series” functionalities – its introduction on Instagram fills a capability gap for creators who rely heavily on Reels for storytelling. Instagram says this feature was among the most requested by creators and is expected to help drive sustained engagement, longer watch times, and a better-organized content experience.
Rolling out globally starting August 21, 2025, the feature marks a continued effort by Instagram to enrich its short-form video offerings and better compete with TikTok’s creative flexibility. Not only is the feature useful for quality-of-like reasons, such as connecting series of Reels that are meant to be viewed as part of a longer content piece or joke, but also invaluable for brands that may want to keep multiple Reels connected if they are part of an overall marketing campaign.
