Rater, the single’s social app that promotes safer connections, has officially launched across the USA. The platform deploys a number of trust & safety protections to create a safer space for authentic daters.
Rater offers singles the opportunity to match with like-minded people online, at the ‘Radar by Rater’ offline mixers, or at user-generated events. GDI spoke with Nicole Drew, Founder of Rater, in November 2023 about the origins of the app:
As part of this recent expansion, Nicole reiterated that “after being scammed in 2018, I found there were absolutely no precautions taken by the dating platforms. Nor did I find an avenue to use my voice to warn other potential victims.”
As a way to address these issues, the platform fosters safer connections by adopting a number of trust & safety features. These include user-to-user ratings, background checks for sex offences or violent crimes, as well as ID & photo verification.
After a soft launch in California in early 2023, Rater now expects to quickly reach 100,000 users as it expands across the USA. It will be offering a limited-time 7 day trial for ‘Go Premium’ memberships as part of this next step.
It highlights the popularity of its offline events, its recognition in the dating industry, and its safety partnerships with IDMerit and BrightCheck, as key factors in its growth so far.
Looking ahead, the platform will be launching ‘’Rater Direct Message’, which will enable ‘Go Premium’ members to directly request a conversation with someone of interest, skipping the wait for a match.
