The queer dating app HER is rolling out a new feature aimed at making online connections more intuitive and emotionally expressive. The update, called Feelings, allows users to communicate their intentions in real time through temporary, customizable tags.
Rather than relying solely on profile bios or swiping guesswork, HER now lets users select short prompts like “Just talking,” “Go on a date,” “Flirty,” or “Hook up” to express their current dating mood. These tags can be stacked and even paired with a note, giving users more specific language to define the kind of interaction they’re seeking. Importantly, the tags disappear automatically after 48 hours, reflecting the fluidity often experienced in queer dating dynamics.
HER, which caters to sapphic users – including queer women, nonbinary people, and trans individuals – designed Feelings to better mirror the way this audience communicates and connects. The feature is intended to provide a more authentic and flexible way for users to share their “vibe, mood, and intentions in the moment,” according to the company’s announcement.
This shift moves away from rigid dating categories or static identity labels, offering an interface that evolves with the user. The goal is to reduce ambiguity while encouraging emotionally honest exchanges – whether someone is up for a casual chat, spontaneous date, or something more flirty or physical.
With Feelings, HER is adapting to a growing demand for more emotionally intelligent design in dating apps, particularly within communities that prioritize fluidity and intention. The update is now live on the app and available to all users.
