Grindr is continuing to roll out AI-driven features as part of its broader 2025 product roadmap, testing new tools aimed at enhancing user experience and engagement. Among the updates in development is an AI-powered chat summary tool designed to help users quickly understand conversation threads — a feature reminiscent of Gmail’s message summaries.
The feature is currently being tested among a subset of Grindr’s paid users. It joins a growing suite of AI functionalities that includes “A-List,” an experimental tool that generates curated match suggestions alongside profile and chat summaries with highlighted takeaways. A-List, available in beta to about 25% of the app’s highest-tier Unlimited subscribers, also allows filtering by categories such as “Online,” “Met Up,” and “Contenders.”
Although A-List has drawn criticism on platforms like Reddit — where some users claim the feature adds little value and replaces previously free tools — Grindr has stated that the free “favorites” option remains available, albeit in a different location. According to the company, more than 70% of early testers reported finding A-List useful, and the feature has correlated with an uptick in Unlimited plan sign-ups and reactivations.
Alongside AI integration, Grindr is also trialing a global profile browsing feature called Discover and has recently launched “Right Now”, which shows who is currently online and available. These tools align with broader efforts to support both local and travel-based connections, bolstered by offerings like Travel Pass and Explore Heatmap.
Grindr CEO George Arison has signaled that additional AI-based features are in the works to serve users with a range of intentions, from casual encounters to long-term relationships. The company’s goal is to become the platform users engage with most frequently, even amid rising concerns over paywalled features and app reliability.
