HER Joins Match Group as Dating Giants Eye Queer Platforms

HER, the leading dating and social networking app for queer women, nonbinary, and trans people, has officially been acquired by Match Group’s family of dating platforms, joining a range of Match-owned queer platforms that have been able to thrive under the brand’s ownership.

Founded over a decade ago by Robyn Exton, HER began as a response to the lack of inclusive digital spaces for sapphic users. Initially launched as Dattch, the platform aimed to challenge the mainstream dating app blueprint that largely ignored or misrepresented queer women’s experiences. Over the years, HER has grown into what Exton calls “the largest sapphic platform in the world.”

Now under the umbrella of Match Group – the parent company behind Tinder, OkCupid, and Hinge – HER is entering a new phase, with plans to scale its features and infrastructure without losing its distinct identity. According to Exton, the acquisition will allow the HER team to “launch new features faster,” improve app performance, and deepen investment in trust and safety systems.

“This moment has been created by all of us,” wrote Exton in her announcement. “We are not a niche. We are not an afterthought. We are a global audience with a voice, a culture, and a future.”

Match Group CEO Spencer Rascoff praised HER as more than just a product, calling it “a home, a movement, and a mirror for millions.” He emphasized that Match’s role will be to support, not redefine, what makes HER unique.
