Snapchat Tests Auto-Hiding ‘My AI’ Chatbot for Inactive Users

Snapchat is considering changes to how its AI chatbot, My AI, appears in users’ chat feeds. Introduced in 2023 well before the platform’s AI marketing tools in 2025, My AI has been pinned to the top of every user’s chat list by default, but this placement has been a source of frustration for some, especially since non-paying users have no way to remove it.

Currently, only Snapchat+ subscribers can “unlink” the chatbot, effectively hiding it from their chat feed. However, Snapchat is now testing a system that would unpin My AI based on user engagement. If users do not interact with the AI feature, the chatbot could automatically disappear from their inbox, though it would remain accessible within the app.

This change aims to give users more control over their chat experience, addressing concerns about the bot’s persistent visibility. Despite this, My AI remains popular, with over 500 million users engaging with the chatbot – more than half of Snapchat’s 900 million monthly active users.

Snap’s approach seems to be using user activity as a gauge for whether the AI assistant stays prominently displayed. If a user ignores My AI, Snapchat may treat this as a signal to hide the bot from their chat list. There is no confirmed timeline for when these potential changes might roll out, but Snapchat has acknowledged that it is actively testing new options for managing the chatbot’s visibility.
