Mutual is a leading dating app for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), also known as Mormons. The platform has released its annual stats report, highlighting important engagement trends and user perspectives.
Created by graduates of Brigham Young University (BYU), Mutual is a dating app that looks to connect followers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Each year it releases a stats report of app usage data and user survey results. Here are some of the key findings from the 2024 edition:
- Over 95% of people respondents said that they feel safe using Mutual.
- The platform requires all user profiles to be verified, meaning that when connecting with a new match, “our team has confirmed that they are really who they say they are”, the platform explained.
- The app has 50.5% male and 49.5% female gender split.
- Mutual highlights that this distribution of users is more equal than the demographics of other dating apps such as Tinder and Hinge. The 50/50 split helps users’ chances of finding a match, it shared.
- To support LDS followers around the world, the app is growing internationally.
- Mutual shares that the fastest growing countries for user signups are the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, and the Philippines.
- Like other dating apps, Mutual saw the highest user activity on January 1st 2024, otherwise known as Dating Sunday.
- The first Sunday of the year is typically the most busy day for dating apps as singles look to make their resolutions about love a reality.The second busiest day for Mutual was October 1st, which coincides with the Sunday sessions of General Conference, a worldwide gathering of the LDS church.
- Mutual’s user surveys show that 63% of women believe men should send the first message, while 67% of men said that whoever matched last should send the first message.
- Regardless of this debate over the first message, Mutual saw a 7.4% increase in messages sent per person from 2022 to 2023.
- 93% of people on Mutual say that you should wait until at least the 2nd date to kiss, if not longer.
- The majority of survey respondents said that couples should be dating for 6-12 months before getting married.
