X Launches 4K Video Uploads for Premium Subscribers

X has officially rolled out support for 4K video uploads, expanding the platform’s video capabilities for paying users. The feature, which was first made available to a select group of creators last month, is now accessible to all X Premium subscribers.

The addition marks a step forward in the company’s ongoing push to enhance its video infrastructure, a priority that has grown under Elon Musk’s broader vision of transforming X into an “everything app.” Musk initially signaled the arrival of 4K video uploads in 2023, with a targeted rollout by the end of that year. However, technical hurdles appear to have delayed the broader implementation until now.

The update arrives amid an uptick in video content consumption on the platform, particularly via TV screens. As more users view X content on larger displays, offering higher-resolution uploads has become increasingly important for maintaining visual quality and improving user experience.

While the platform hasn’t released detailed information about the technical specs or maximum file sizes for 4K uploads, the enhancement positions X more competitively against other platforms with strong video support, such as YouTube and TikTok.

Access to the feature is limited to X Premium subscribers, continuing the company’s strategy of placing advanced functionality behind a paywall. For creators aiming to expand their audience and improve content presentation, the upgrade may provide additional incentive to invest in the subscription.

In addition to the 4K rollout, X is also reportedly working on upgraded livestreaming tools. Although specifics have yet to be disclosed, expanded live broadcast features are expected in a future update as part of the platform’s broader video-first roadmap.
