Zodiac, Tarot, and Pets: Tinder Taps Into Gen Z’s Spiritual Side

As younger daters increasingly look beyond traditional compatibility markers, Tinder is embracing a growing trend: spiritual alignment in romance. From astrology checks to Tarot consultations, Gen Z and Millennials are integrating mysticism into their approach to dating — and platforms are beginning to respond.

According to data from Tinder’s recent studies, nearly one-third of Gen Z and Millennial users now consider astrological compatibility before a first date. Meanwhile, 16% consult Tarot for romantic advice, marking a shift toward emotionally intuitive and spiritually guided connections. The move reflects broader generational preferences for meaning, energy, and intuition over surface-level attraction or algorithmic matchmaking.

The phenomenon isn’t limited to the stars. Pets are playing an increasingly prominent role in dating culture. Globally, about 20% of singles are now building vision boards featuring their pets, and Tinder reports a 7.6% increase in pet mentions in user bios in India. This blend of emotional expression and companion validation speaks to a deeper search for authenticity — with animals serving as proxies for emotional intuition.

In a recent campaign, Tinder India partnered with Tarot reader Jeevika Sharma for an unconventional twist: pet-led Tarot readings. Designed to humorously channel what pets might ask about their owners’ love lives, the initiative explored themes like emotional availability, relationship readiness, and romantic red flags. Sharma also offered zodiac-specific insights and bio suggestions, catering to the 25% of users who see humor as a key dating green flag.
