X Shares New Insights on Gen Z Usage in Europe

Social platform X has released new research on Gen Z engagement across Europe. According to the company, Gen Z’s presence on the platform has grown significantly, with a reported 37% increase in users since 2022, bringing the total to over 30 million Gen Z users in the region.

However, some inconsistencies in the data raise questions about the accuracy of these claims. Under the EU Digital Services Act (DSA), X is required to disclose its total number of active users in the region. According to these official reports, X’s overall EU user base has actually declined – from 111 million in August 2023 to 106 million in October 2024. This contrasts with X’s recent statement that the platform has 119.3 million monthly users in Europe, a number that does not align with previous public disclosures.

Despite these discrepancies, X’s report highlights key engagement trends among younger users. The platform describes Gen Z as drawn to X for its “fast, raw, and real-time” content, positioning it as a hub for breaking news and discussion. The data also suggests that Gen Z users on X are 22% more likely to engage with technology-related content than non-users. Additionally, gaming, sports, fashion, and shopping are listed as top areas of interest for this demographic.

Another significant finding is that Gen Z audiences on X appear to prefer video content, with the report claiming they are 1.5 times more likely to engage with long-form video compared to other users.
