X has introduced several upgrades to its XChat direct messaging system, currently available only to Premium subscribers, taking notable steps toward making its messaging experience more robust and user-friendly. The platform recently added the ability to search across all conversations – not just recently viewed ones – making it easier to locate specific messages. Furthermore, new options now allow users to block DMs from specific accounts directly in the interface, enhancing control over conversations.
Additional improvements to the XChat environment include typing indicators, which offer real-time feedback by showing when a recipient is composing a message, along with inbox reactions and expanded push notifications for replies and mentions. Together, these features bring XChat closer in line with messaging standards found in other services.
These iterative updates may not be massive overhauls that change the core of the platform’s messaging system but they align with Elon Musk’s broader vision of transforming X into an “everything app” – one that links messaging with integrated commerce and finance functions. Messaging is expected to play a central role in enabling features like peer-to-peer payments, in-stream transactions, and potentially even full banking services – all built atop XChat’s encrypted infrastructure.
As X continues to expand its feature set, the new DM tools could serve as a foundational step toward deeper integration with other platform services, notably including the platform’s upcoming pushes into working as a money management and stock trading app alongside its usual social; functions.
