TikTok Tests ‘Bulletin Boards’ to Rival Instagram’s Broadcast Channels

TikTok is experimenting with a new feature called “bulletin boards“, offering creators and brands a way to share broadcast-style updates directly with followers. The tool, which closely resembles Instagram’s broadcast channels launched in 2023, allows for one-way communication: only the account owner can post, while followers can engage by reacting with emojis.

The feature supports text, images, and video, creating a streamlined format for announcements, behind-the-scenes content, or direct promotional messages. It is designed to give creators more control over how they communicate with their audience without relying solely on Stories or feed posts.

According to TikTok, bulletin boards are currently in testing with select accounts. Some of the early participants include media outlet People, football club Paris Saint-Germain, and the Jonas Brothers. There’s no official word yet on when or if the feature will be rolled out more broadly.

The move continues a trend of social platforms adopting each other’s successful features. TikTok previously added Stories and photo-sharing capabilities to better compete with Instagram, while Instagram has leaned heavily on TikTok’s format with the development of Reels.

While bulletin boards currently mirror Instagram’s broadcast channels in function, it’s possible TikTok may expand the feature’s capabilities over time. For now, it offers another method for creators to maintain visibility in users’ feeds and sustain ongoing engagement.

As platforms continue to evolve toward more controlled and curated creator-audience interactions, features like bulletin boards represent a shift in how social communication is structured—favoring broadcast-style updates over open conversation.
