Instagram has rolled out a new update to its Edits video app, introducing a teleprompter feature designed to support more polished, to-camera content creation. The feature, now available to all users, allows creators to upload a script that scrolls on-screen while they record, positioned near the front-facing camera to help maintain eye contact and improve delivery.
Users can customize the speed and text size of the teleprompter display, offering flexibility to suit different presentation styles. The update is part of Instagram’s broader push to compete with CapCut, TikTok parent ByteDance’s editing platform, by making Edits a central tool for creators.
Alongside the teleprompter, Edits is also receiving new analytics features, including a ranking view of users’ 10 most recent Reels based on views, as well as updated overlay tools. These improvements follow a series of earlier additions to the app, such as enhanced cropping tools, soundtrack beat markers, voice effects, transition editing, and alignment guides.
The teleprompter stands out as a potentially valuable addition for creators who want to deliver scripted content naturally without glancing off-screen. With video content continuing to dominate social platforms, tools that streamline production while maintaining authenticity are increasingly in demand.
Instagram appears committed to evolving Edits as a full-service video editing suite, with further updates planned, including AI-driven background editing and collaborative features. As the platform builds out these capabilities, it aims to capture a larger share of the growing mobile-first video creation market.
