Meta has rolled out a significant update to its standalone video editing application, Edits, enhancing its functionality with new audio, font, and interface capabilities. This marks yet another rapidly-deployed update, possibly a hint that the Edits app is going to be a cornerstone of Meta’s social media focus going forward.
The latest version introduces the ability to extend audio tracks beyond the displayed video, allowing creators to sync music or sound effects before or after clips. A new “cut silences” tool auto-removes unwanted gaps in voiceovers or narration, helping streamline editing workflows. Users can also now import audio files from their devices, though Meta has implemented copyright detection mechanisms to prevent misuse of protected content.
Visual editing has also received an upgrade: Edits now supports a much broader collection of fonts – Meta added around 149 new font styles – and seven additional video transition effects, offering creators enhanced styling options. he user interface has also been refined to enable smoother navigation within projects. These tools come amid broader feature expansions across Edits, with most of the new tools designed to serve both dedicated content creators and casual users on the exact same platform. Meta’s strategy with Edits is to offer a free, watermark‑free editing platform tightly integrated with Instagram and Facebook, positioning it as a direct competitor to apps like CapCut.
