TikTok is testing new tools to spotlight songwriters, debuting a prominent Songwriter label beneath profiles and introducing a dedicated Music tab showcasing tracks they’ve written or co‑written. These features work similarly to its existing tools for artists but are specifically tailored to support music creators behind the scenes.
Access is currently invite-only, limited to select publishing partners and songwriters participating in a closed beta. This marks TikTok’s latest investment in creator-focused functionality, complementing earlier launches such as the “New” content tag, the BehindTheSong hub for storytelling, and the Off the Record series featuring artists like Shakira and Charli XCX.
While TikTok previously experimented with its own music streaming service – now discontinued – the platform continues to position itself as a pivotal channel for music discovery and creator promotion. The new songwriter-specific badges and tab may enhance visibility for behind-the-scenes contributors, create new branding opportunities, and boost monetization potential for creators who traditionally receive less public recognition.
This move aligns TikTok more closely with rival platforms like Spotify and Tidal, which offer songwriter credits and royalty-tracking features. However, by integrating these capabilities directly into creator profiles, TikTok is distinguishing itself with a social-first, content-centric approach, blending promotion and creator identity within a video-native experience.
