Snapchat Acquires Student Scheduling App Saturn

Snapchat has announced the acquisition of Saturn, a student-focused scheduling app, in a move aimed at strengthening its position as a central platform for **** communication and coordination.

Saturn, which allows high school and college students to manage and share class schedules, organize events, and connect through built-in chat features, is already integrated into student life at scale. According to Snap, roughly 80% of U.S. high school students attend institutions supported by Saturn’s scheduling features. The app is currently used in approximately 17,000 high schools and is expanding its footprint into college campuses.

The acquisition fits neatly into Snap’s core demographic strategy. Snapchat continues to be one of the most-used apps among ****s in the U.S., and incorporating calendar-based social tools could further embed the platform into daily routines. While details about product integration have not been disclosed, Snap has indicated Saturn will continue operating independently for now.

The move suggests potential future developments where Snapchat could incorporate Saturn’s scheduling functions directly into features like Snap Map or group chats, enabling users to coordinate in-person meetups more fluidly. It may also serve as a foundation for new socially driven utilities aimed at students.

The acquisition does raise questions about privacy. Given Snapchat’s existing location-sharing tools, the addition of calendar-based activity tracking introduces new considerations around data security, particularly for underage users. Snap has emphasized that privacy settings are already in place and will remain a focus.
