LinkedIn is expanding its video capabilities with the introduction of video cover options for both articles and newsletters. The new feature, currently rolling out to all users, allows creators to replace the traditional static header image with a short video clip. Given LinkedIn’s major focus on video content in recent months, this is hardly surprising, given all of the major updates that have released to make video content both easier to produce and more practical compared to text or image posts.
Once fully deployed, all LinkedIn members will be able to upload a video as the header for their articles, including newsletters. These video covers will appear in users’ main feeds, providing a dynamic preview intended to boost visibility and click-through rates. In addition, video thumbnails will be included in email notifications sent to newsletter subscribers.
LinkedIn advises users to upload videos in a horizontal 16:9 format and keep them brief—around 30 seconds—to maximize impact. While the platform hasn’t introduced new functionality beyond the visual enhancement, the presence of video is expected to play a key role in capturing attention in an increasingly competitive content feed.
The shift comes amid a notable rise in video performance on the platform. According to LinkedIn, video posts are shared 20 times more frequently than other content types, and year-over-year video viewership is up by 36%. Video also reportedly drives 1.4 times more engagement than other formats, making it a strategic addition for users looking to increase content reach.
The video cover feature will also be available for company pages, which have had access to long-form article and newsletter tools since 2021. With these changes, LinkedIn continues to position itself not just as a professional networking site, but as a content publishing and media platform. The global rollout of video covers is expected to complete over the coming weeks.
