Meta has rolled out a series of updates to its Brand Rights Protection dashboard, aimed at giving intellectual property holders greater ability to report and track violations across Facebook and Instagram. The enhancements follow months of beta testing and are now available to all businesses enrolled in the program.
The most significant change is an expansion of reporting options, allowing brands to flag suspected scam ads at scale. In addition to reporting content that infringes on trademarks or copyrights, companies can now use a new “Other” category to request action against ads that do not explicitly use their IP but still promote “products, services, schemes or offers using deceptive or misleading practices,” including suspected scams.
Meta has also streamlined the takedown request process, reducing the steps required to submit a report. The “Reports” tab now includes improved search functionality, making it easier for rights holders to locate past submissions. Updated status notes aim to clarify the progress and outcome of each case.
These updates build on Meta’s existing tools, which include AI-powered image matching to detect potential violations based on reference images provided by brands. As Meta continues to integrate more e-commerce and shopping features into its platforms, safeguarding brand integrity has become a key priority.
The company reported that in 2024 it removed over 157 million ads across its apps for breaching fraud and scam policies. While the changes are designed to bolster trust in its advertising ecosystem, they also highlight ongoing tensions in the industry over data use and content rights, particularly in the context of AI training.
